A chilled out Sunderland city centre wedding with a super cool music venue reception...

We always talk about how we love when couples make their own rules for their wedding day, and Beth & Phil smashed this out of the park!

Starting the day with a relaxed wedding ceremony at Sunderland City Hall, the couple said their vows in the glass fronted ceremony space which overlooks the riverside and the Stadium of Light. The guests read DIY newspapers and enjoyed the views during the family photos before heading for a pint while Beth, Phil & I headed into Sunderland city centre for their portraits.

The cool thing about city weddings is that the backdrops are always so much fun to work with! We went for a wander past the bridge to recreate a photo that Phil's mam had taken on her wedding day, before dancing in the rain on the cobbles and heading to the Bridge Hotel Vaults for the couple to enjoy a pint with their friends and have some down time ahead of the reception.

Shorty after, over the road at Pop Recs, the reception kicked off with spicy margaritas, personalised beer mats, speeches and limoncello toasts before everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet. Pop recs is a super cool & independent music venue where the couple have spent many a date night so it was the perfect setting to celebrate their wedding! Beth & Phil posed with their DIY newspapers for some flash portraits at the venue before they kicked off the dancefoor with their first dance.

With the tunes and limoncello flowing, the guests soon joined in - even starting an impromtu conga line through the music venue - before Beth & Phil cut their incredible cake. Made by their bridesmaid the cake was a heart shaped iced tiffin rather than a traditional sponge and it went down a treat!

Beth & Phil said they didn't want a super formal day in their original enquiry - looking to have all the people they loved in a room celebrating and for it to feel relaxed and natural. Well...they nailed it! They chose to visit their favourite places, with their favourite people and keep the whole day feeling 100% them, and it was a dream to be a part of!
