Wedding planning tips - Talking Florals with Springwood Flowers

It is 2025 and with the new year usually comes the rush of wedding planning. Perhaps you have just got engaged (contgrats) or it is your wedding this year! Whatever the situation we want to share some wedding planning tips over the next few months to help!

So lets talk florals. We have had the good fortune to work with the incredibly lovely and talented Anne-Marie at Springwood Flowers a few times over the last few wedding seasons and we just knew she was the lady to reach out to when talking about wedding florals. When it comes to planning your wedding, florals are going to be something you will end up thinking about. From a photography perspective, your florals really can bring so much life and colour to your wedding images. Whatever your style, whether it's lots of greenery and bringing the outdoors in, or going for bold colours and bright styles...your flowers have the power to add so much personality and style to your day. Of course there are lots of things to think about when it comes to your flowers, and budget is likely to be one of them. Weddings are often a big investment, so we asked Anne-Marie to talk us through how couples can make the most of their wedding florals budget and how different styles and ideas can be achieved...

Beth and Sam - Manor House Lindley

The Brief - Soft and delicate colours, in an understated elegant style.

Anne-Marie @ Springwood Flowers - Beth and Sam chose one of my small wedding packages with some added extras for their wedding.  With plans already made for venue dressing, Beth wanted fresh flowers for her bouquet and for her five bridesmaids as well as buttonholes for ladies and gentlemen in the party.  My small packages are really flexible, allowing couples to choose their colour palette but for me to select the best flowers available in the colours at the time.  This means the flower budget goes much further whilst also still being really high quality. Beth chose the softest blush pink and cream roses, and lots of eucalyptus greenery which perfectly complemented her sleek, cowl-necked gown and tulle veil.  Another super-stylish wedding at this fabulous, great-gatsby style venue.

Emily @ Bailey & Mitchell Photography - Beth & Sam planned a beautiful wedding day that felt really elegant but understated and natural. The flowers reflected that. The fresh bouquets looked gorgeous in photographs and brought the outside in a little, which for a February wedding was lovely because the majority of the day was spent inside the venue. The soft colours were lovely and matched in with the rest of the day. Manor House is such a stylish venue and so it doesn't need a tonne of dressing, so using the budget to add a little somethig for the bridal party with bouquets and buttonholes is a lovely idea!

Alice and Tom - Manor House Lindley

The Brief - Stylish, black tie, chic, elegant.

Anne-Marie @ Springwood Flowers - With black tie tuxedo's for the gents, pure white and lace overlay for the bride and sleek champagne-coloured satin for the maids, the flowers needed to be sophisticated. Alice wanted classic green and white, which I combined with silvery eucalyptus and Mediterranean olive for a cool and delicate colour palette. I added texture with dancing grasses and queen Anne's lace, and the tiniest hint of colour from the pink centres of scented waxflower. The tiered cake made from wheels of cheese was the perfect base for edible, organic herbs instead of an expensive floral design. With flowering thyme, rosemary, mint and sage, grown locally and laid simply on the tiers, the scent was absolutely divine and complimented the cheese brilliantly.

Emily @ Bailey & Mitchell Photography - It is always so fun to see what different couples do with the same venue. Alice & Tom went for a light colour palette and kept to a classic white and greenery style for their flowers which really popped in the warm, romantic rooms of The Manor House. The fresh petal confetti really stood out to us as photographers because it photographed so beautifully as they came back up the aisle - plus the fresh herbs on the cheese cake were so unique and made the whole space smell divine!

Lauren and Jack - Spicer Manor

The Brief - Bright and bold, colourful and fun.

Anne-Marie @ Springwood Flowers - Lauren loved flowers, so she really wanted the venue to pop with colour and to include designs that would look fabulous in photo backdrops. I created a wild and natural installation at the bottom of the beautiful staircase. With moss and ivy,  spires of foxgloves and foxtail lilies the finished look truly was a fairytale design. We echoed the woodland fairytale feel with ferny meadow boxes for the aisle which were then easily repurposed in front of the crisp white tablecloth of the top table. By choosing readily available, seasonal stems, including lots of locally grown flowers, we got the most out of Lauren and Jack's flower budget and the flowers were captured beautifully.

Emily @ Bailey & Mitchell Photography - Spicer Manor is such a lovely venue with very warm, neutral backdrops so Lauren & Jack's choice of bold colours with the florals really makes the whole scene pop! We loved seeing the bright, vibrant colours and wild flowers and the way they chose to scatter the florals all throughout the venue and then repurpose them at different points of the day. Such a fun way to bring personality and vibrance to the wedding and we (and our cameras) loved it!

A summary...

Anne-Marie has shared some fab advice and insights with us and the main takeaways seem to be this...

  1. Have a clear vision and vibe that you want to achieve

  2. Think about using seasonal florals for both budget and sustainability

  3. Your florals can be used in various different ways throughout the day

  4. Your flowers are often the backdrop, or centerpiece, of alot of your photos especially in the venue so think about the colours and what will work with your style best

So much to think about but one thing is for sure - floral trends come and go but flowers always seem to be a big deal so have a good think about what you want for your wedding day.
