Every now and again its nice to get creative, so when we were approached by one of our favourite makeup artists Samantha Lyann to work with a beautiful model on a styled shoot how could we refuse?
So often it feels as though to produce a styled bridal shoot there needs to be a big budget and a huge team...so we decided to set ourselves a challenge...to get our DIY on! We LOVE seeing how creative our couples can be with their DIY weddings so we decided to give it a go ourselves, creating and styling a set and wardrobe for the shoot with mostly what we already owned and a small budget for extras.
The styling was to be modern and minimalistic, so we moved away from the more traditional big dresses and worked with jumpsuits, tailored blazers and wide leg trousers, paring it all with slight feminine touches of lace and bold jewellery. Think bride meets girl boss!
The really fun part was building the set! We decided to work in our garden, and by no means do we have a big or glamorous garden at all...but with unlimited coffee on set if we worked from home it was a no brainer! We went for a rustic meets minimal vibe and very quickly we learned that florists are AMAZING people with talent and patience beyond our own as we attempted to pull our Ivy arch together using the plants we could scavenge from our yard. The backdrop is an old favourite, and the lanterns and crates are actually from our own wedding!
Samantha created two gorgeous looks, one pared down and natural and the second with a bold, kick ass red lip. Our model, Charlotte @ Boss Model Management, was a total gem all day, fully embodying the vibe of the shoot and even getting her partner Tom involved for a few shots at the end!
So with our little team, lots of laughs and some elbow grease, we managed to put together a styled bridal editorial in our little back garden! Getting creative was a blast, and the challenge of trying to DIY the set ended up being great fun and we can't wait to share the full editorial soon...
For now though, it really does just goes to show that sometimes all you need is a bit of creative thinking and a good team around you and you can create something beautiful in a little space with a teeny budget! So to all our DIY couples...we salute you!
